This
seminar/series will focus in on the historical, societal, and cultural
context
of the Islamic faith, centering in on North Africa and the
region of the central Middle East. It
will analyze the world of Mohamed in order to better understand
the phenomenon that allowed for the development of faith
in the 7th Century AD. The f
oundations of faith, architecture of faith, and sectarian nature of Islam will also be discussed. From there, one will trace the spiritual
and political development of Islam within the framework of
Arabic and N. African culture as the religion took root and
grew. Finally, one will look at the impact of Islamic Arabic
life on the modern world, and how its relationship with the
western world has evolved.
